Volunteer Opportunity

Volunteer Opportunity At El Centrito

If you are interested in volunteering your time and talent to any of El Centrito's programs, please download and fill out the Volunteer Contract and Consent Form. Please submit the form by emailing it to Carmen Ramirez at centrito@elcentrito.org or contact her at 805 483-8685 to arrange alternative manner to submit the application.

Please review the program descriptions below with hours of operation, and volunteer requirements to decide in which program you wish to volunteer.

Family Literacy Cooperative Program
Open M - F 8AM- 1PM, students present 8:30-11:30AM
The family literacy cooperative serves children ages 2-5 years and their parents, providing parents with English as a Second Language classes, as well as preschool classes to support their children’s educational growth.

After School Programs
M - F 2:30PM- 5:30PM
The after school program support important academic skills of the primary grade students in a fun environment, while supporting their emerging interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) subjects.

Mis Padres y Yo Workshops
Schedule varies, but primarily mornings Monday – Friday
Parent workshops serve parents with children ages 0 - 3. Using play-and-learn workshops, the parent workshopsprogram aims to increase parents’ knowledge of ways to stimulate their child, while also supporting bonding.

Ocean View Preschool*
Open M - F 8:00AM- 2:00PM, students present 8:30AM- 11:30PM
Provide preschool classes that offer explorative learning opportunities to 2 year old students in order to promote interest in learning and improve educational outcomes.

Ramona Preschool*
Open M - F 8:00AM- 4:00PM, students present 8AM- 11AM & 12PM- 3PM
Provide preschool classes that offer explorative learning opportunities to prepare students for kindergarten and
pre-reading, and literacy skills. Each session prepares 24 preschoolers, ages 3-5 years for nine months.

School Readiness*
Open M - F 8AM- 4PM, students present 8:30AM-11:30AM & 12:30-3:30PM
Provide preschool classes that offer explorative learning opportunities to prepare students for kindergarten and pre-reading, and literacy skills. Each session prepares 24 preschoolers, ages 3-5 years for nine months.

Other opportunities are also available for volunteers, including parent leadership training, special event support and administrative support.

Forms are required from all volunteers, including photo identification.

*For licensed preschool sites, El Centrito must require proof of negative tuberculosis test with 1 year, and fingerprints if volunteer schedule is more than 16 hours weekly.
