Homework Club
Adelante Homework Club offers school-based tutoring at Cesar Chavez Elementary School in the neighborhood of La Colonia and at Driffill Elementary School in downtown Oxnard. Each site is staffed by two mentors who provide homework assistance, as well as a positive role model to student participants. In addition to the on-going weekly support provided to students, Adelante offers quarterly parent education workshops that support parental involvement as a vital part of children’s school success. Adelante participants are referred by their teacher and typically are “intense need students” who are below grade level and are not receiving other after-school academic assistance. Many participants come from low income, Spanish-speaking monolingual households with low educational levels Teachers and parents note the positive impact of Adelante participation for students: She went from 16 wpm to 34 wpm in reading! Her writing is excellent!!!
